New Mercury's Wings Project


Mercury’s Wings Theatre Company (MWTC), with the support of the Regional Arts Development Fund, recently launched its latest work, R U Hmlt?.


R U Hmlt? is a one-man show consisting of text from the Shakespearean play and original text by MWTC directors James Anderson and Claudine Stephen-Smith. The premise for the piece came from a strong desire to illustrate that in some way – everyone is Hamlet.

Claudine has previously directed an award-winning full production of Hamlet with James in the leading role. Both wanted to explore the contemporary relevance of the text and the character more, and it was with this desire that the production was conceived.

Nine Nominations for MWTC

Mercury's Wings January 2009 open-air production of Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing received nine nominations at the inaugural 2009 Gold Coast Area Theatre Awards in November.

Congratulations to Lauren Brant (playing Beatrice), awarded "Best Actress in a Play", and to our other nominees, Brydie Hannabach (Best Costumes), Tom Howell (Best Technical Achievement), Carmen Trevino, playing Hero, (Best Actress in a Supporting Role in a Play AND Special Encouragement Award), Claudine Stephen-Smith (Best Director of a Play) and James Anderson, playing Benedick, (Best Actor in a Leading Role In a Play).            More >>
The Ugly Duckling

On Sunday 19th April 2009, Mercury's Wings Theatre Company personalities participated in celebrations at Musgrave Park, Southport, to mark the acquisition by the Gold Coast City Council of a beautiful sculpture by Donna Marcus.

This commission came about through the MWTC's past association with the Gold Coast City Art Gallery, and we would like to express our gratitude to the staff of the Art Gallery for recommending us.                    More >>>

James Anderson in Japan
Mercury's Wings Theatre Company Artistic Director James Anderson visited Tadashi Suzuki's International Festival in Toga, Japan, in August 2009 to play the title role in Frank Theatre's production of "The Reckoning of Christiane Badengood", an adaptation by Frank Theatre director John Nobbs of "Everyman", a 15th Century morality play.                     More >>
