The Ugly Duckling - April 2009

On Sunday 19th April 2009, Mercury's Wings Theatre Company personalities participated in celebrations at Musgrave Park,Southport to mark the acquisition by the Gold Coast City Council of a beautiful Donna Marcus tyre sculpture of a huge swan, which has clear connections to the Hans Christian Andersen story, The Ugly Duckling.
Highlight of the event was a 30 minute performance piece by MWTC Director Claudine Stephen-Smith incorporating dance, movement, music and narration, featuring MWTC performer Joel Beskin as narrator, with trained dancer Jessica Kiehne along with young dancers of the Hinterland Dance Academy, thanks to Annette Ashendon (Principal).
This commission came about through the MWTC's past association with the Gold Coast City Art Gallery, and we would like to express our gratitude to the staff of the Art Gallery for recommending us.
